Puzzle Craft 2 is the sequel to the renowned Puzzle Craft, a game that lured us in back in 2012. It has you controlling all aspects of a city and solving puzzles to gather the resources you need to succeed.
Construction and puzzles
Broadly speaking, very little has changed for Puzzle Craft 2. Starting with a small territory you must begin to build a prosperous town, filling it with everything its inhabitants need. Create houses, utilities, land to expand... so far, so SimCity.
The puzzle element of the game also remains largely the same. A classic match-three system has you lining up blocks to create combos in order to get more resources. This also has you matching the correct blocks to meet your people’s requirements - if you need food you have to match various crops, while elements like rock and wood must be matched to provide building materials.
To add a little more spice, Puzzle Craft 2 also presents challenges to fulfill. These all focus on finding a certain number of resources to develop your city.
Grow your world
Puzzle Craft 2 gameplay is well balanced. You have puzzles to master, but then also the world to manage and customize - making it hard to tire of its mix of genres.
Of course, with this being a free-to-play title, you can expect the usual slow down after the initial excitement. That said, while real money will speed things up, it is never necessary to keep the game moving forward.
Aesthetically, Puzzle Quest 2 has a lot of charm. The village and puzzles all look good. That said, if you played the first Puzzle Craft you will not be surprised by much - despite all the small improvements and more colorful designs.
Puzzle Craft 2 does not innovate in the same way it predecessor did, but it does offer a better gameplay experience with more elaborate design, gameplay, and customization options.
